South Africa has 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and this tour visits each and every one. From the Cape Floral Kingdom and the wetlands of St. Lucia, to the enormously important archaeological site of Mapungubwe in Zimbabwe, this trip is one unforgettable experience after another.
The trip to the Richtersveld Cultural and Botanical Landscape is an optional, 6-day safari that departs from and returns to Cape Town before the tour starts working it’s way north to the Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape.
Day 1 – Arrive Johannesburg – overnight.
Day 2 – Early flight to Cape Town – drive to Springbok – meet your safari guides – overnight Springbok
Days 3, 4 & 5 – From Springbok into the Richtersveld Area – 3 nights camping safari.
Day 6 – Return to Springbok – drive to Cape Town – overnight Cape Town
Day 7 – as per Day 2 of the main tour starting with Table Mountain (see following itinerary).
Day 1 – Arrive in Johannesburg. Transfer to hotel for the night.
Day 2 – Morning flight to Cape Town. Afternoon tour to Table Mountain. Overnight Cape Town.
Day 3 – Cape Floral Region – Tour of the Cape Peninsula, including Cape Point. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 4 – Morning tour of Robben Island, an afternoon tour to Stellenbosch for a wine tasting. Overnight in Cape Town.
Day 5 – Fly to Durban. Afternoon city tour. Overnight Umhlanga Rocks
Day 6 – Depart uMhlanga and drive to the Umfolozi Game Reserve. Spend the day viewing game. Late afternoon, proceed to St. Lucia for the night.
Day 7 – iSimangaliso wetland area – Early morning Whale Watching Tour (in season). Return mid-morning. Afternoon Boat tour on the St. Lucia estuary. Overnight St. Lucia.
Day 8 – Drive to Shakaland. Enjoy the show and lunch. Late afternoon continues to Underberg. Overnight.
Day 9 – Full day tour up Sani Pass to Lesotho. Overnight Underberg.
Day 10 – uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park – Drive to Giant’s Castle Nature Reserve. Walk to view San Rock Art. Overnight at Giant’s Castle.
Day 11 – Continue to Clarens via The Golden Gate National Park. Overnight Clarens.
Day 12 – The Vredefort Dome – Morning drive to Vredefort. Afternoon circular drive exploring the geological formations. Overnight in Parys.
Day 13 – Drive to the Sterkfontein Caves. Enjoy the cave tour and visit the museum. Continue on to the Hartebeespoort Dam area. Overnight.
Day 14 – Drive to Mapungubwe. Arrive mid-afternoon, stay overnight.
Day 15 – Day to explore the Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape.
Day 16 – Return to Johannesburg
